Maybe its that all my lawyering is done remotely, but I never really saw myself as a Mike Ross, Alan Shore or (god forbid) Jimmy McGill.

Instead -- since I'm writing this on a Star Trek site -- the character I identify most closely with is probably Julian Bashir. Sure he's a doctor, not a lawyer, but we have most of the same traits: ambitious, intelligent, hardworking and passionate about it, worldly, and surprisingly and handy when you need something fixed (I did not take a Starfleet engineering extension course, I just have a house and had to learn).

Of course Julian also has miserable luck with women, mostly because of his high standards (he pursues Jadzia Dax and ends up with Ezri, and in between dates Serena, all of whom are smarter than he is) and I can sympathize. I'm exclusively interested in a partner who is herself a geek (fans of any kind of sci-fi, fantasy, comics or games), and who is my intellectual peer. I also prefer someone who feels accomplished in her own field or at least who has ambitions (with some plausible plan) in that direction.

Of course, Julian isn't everyone's cup of tea: the whole first season of DS9, everyone misreads his intelligence as just being pretentious. The fact that I love Broadway, speak French and live in New York gives lots of people a similar wrong idea about me. In fact, I'm just as happy having a beer after a hard day of using a concrete saw as attending a wine tasting and talking about anti-trust law.
