I am an old gau guy who has been a devotee / admirer since before I can remember. But that is not exclusively limited toward amputees. I sincerely enjoy being with a person less abled than I. For 16 years prior to about 6 months ago I shared an appartment with a Vietnamese man who was injured when he was still in Vietnam - he was about 10 years old when he found a white plastic ball. Being a curious creature, he pried it open. The explosion killed his younger brother; a neighbor boy lost a leg. Bien lost his left hand, the index and middle fingers, and part of the thumb on his right hand and the big toe of his right foot. When we met, Bien would wear his hook constantly. As time passed and I didn't freak out, he began to wear the hook less. Skip to 16 years later - the only time he wears it is when he absolutely needs it - to floss for example. I am not saying that I orchestrated this change. Bien did it all. I'm very happy I was to be there as his support. There were many time when I would unthinkingly ask him to do something for me that would have been a simple task for me but would be very difficul for him; I simply didn't see him as disabled because of all the things he could do. He has rebuilt computers for friends. When he was younger he would overhawl cars without help. It was, indeed, easy to forget about what he lost. Getting back to the question at hand, I think I am looking for a man of any age, religion, skin color, political leanings, height, weight, etc. to become friends with. Who knows where that would lead!!!
